Service Thread ISO 9001:2008 Certified

Laurinburg, NC (September 29, 2011) -- Service Thread has received Green Business certification for the second consecutive year.  The certification is given annually to qualifying companies by Sustainable Sandhills, a non-profit organization focused on resource conservation in the eight county region surrounding Fort Bragg, NC.  In 2010, Service Thread became Scotland County’s first certified Green Business as identified by the organization.

“We are proud of this certification,” said Sam M. Butler III, Service Thread President and CEO.  “One of our core values at Service Thread is service to our community through environmental stewardship and support for our neighbors.  We have created programs and invested money in reducing our environmental footprint and hope to serve as an example to our corporate neighbors who we encourage to do the same.”

In June of this year, Service Thread completed two PV solar projects on the roof of the company’s distribution facility in Laurinburg - an 11kW addition to the company’s existing 10kW array, and a third 250kW array, for which Service Thread acts as a host site through a lease agreement with Argand Energy, who owns and maintains this large system.  These projects are in addition to other energy cost cutting measures the company has been implementing since early 2009.

“Service Thread is an exemplary leader in the area of energy conservation and is deserved of the Green Business certification” said Kea Meacham, Sustainability Coordinator for Sustainable Sandhills.  “Jay Todd, COO/CFO at the company is an innovative leader when it comes to integrating environmental initiatives into a company’s business plan.  Service Thread is a model for how companies can make a positive impact without disrupting the bottom line.”

Energy conservation and environmental friendliness is not just a motto for Service Thread.  It is a way of doing business and has a positive effect on the company’s financial sheet.  “We are always looking at our internal costs and resource management to make sure that Service Thread is as effective and efficient as possible,’ explained Todd.  “Changing to energy efficient lighting throughout the plant, and better managing our environmental controls was an easy first step.  We next installed solar energy generation systems on our 108,000 square foot distribution center building as a way to both offset our power costs and as a real demonstration of technological and environmental leadership within our local and extended customer and supplier communities.”

Service Thread stands as an example to the companies in the region that it is economically viable to maintain energy efficiency.  “With this certification Service Thread has once again proven that they are a leader for not only our community but the region in sustainable manufacturing,” said Theresa M. Lamson, President of the Laurinburg/Scotland County Area Chamber of Commerce.  “I hope that other local businesses can take note and think about how they can begin to incorporate "green" practices into their workplace.”
